The United States expressed strong support for the Philippines’ newly enacted maritime laws, the Philippine Maritime Zones Act and the Philippine Archipelagic Sea Lanes Act, urging the international community to align its maritime claims with international law as outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea .
Following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s signing of the new maritime law, local government agencies are set to “review rules and regulations regarding these updates to ensure effective implementation.”
