A leaked letter to Joe Biden has called into question the stability of the US Navy defence submarine deal with Australia and the United Kingdom.
The AUKUS agreement, struck by the Morrison government in September 2021, will see Australia secure up to eight nuclear-propelled submarines while bolstering the trilateral exchange of security and military technology.
President Joe Biden has been urged to put the United States interest before building submarines for allies like Australia. Senators Jack Reed and Senator James Inhofe expressed their concern that the US can not produce enough submarines for both their needs and Australia's, despite AUKUS negotiations.
