Former US president Donald Trump hopes the US government shuts down out for “self-interest”, according to UC Irvine Professor of Political Science Professor Louis Desipio. Professor Desipio’s comments come as the House Republicans remain in a deadlock. “It will aid his campaign certainly because his supporters tend to not see much value in government,” Professor Desipio told Sky News Australia. “But it will probably also aid him personally in that his prosecution on multiple felony charges will slow. “Generally, former presidents have seen their responsibility is to be national leaders – former president Trump does not see that as his responsibility.”
