Forsythe played a big role in the Panthers’ two road wins over the weekend.CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Goaltender Sarah Forsythe backstopped the UPEI Panthers to back-to-back nail-biting road wins in the Atlantic University Sport Women’s Hockey Conference over the weekend in Halifax, N.S.
Forsythe registered a 24-save shutout in a 1-0 win over the Dalhousie Tigers on Jan. 14 and stopped 28 of 29 shots in a 3-1 win over the Saint Mary’s Huskies on Jan. 13.The Panthers have won five games in a row and sit at 12-6-1-0 . The Panthers and Huskies are tied for third place with 25 points, three back of the second-place St. Francis Xavier X-Women .
The Panthers host two games at MacLauchlan Arena this week. The Moncton Blue Eagles visit on Jan. 20 and the X-Women provide the opposition on Jan. 21. Both contests start at 7 p.m.In men’s action, the Panthers dropped their second game of the week in Nova Scotia. After losing 3-2 in overtime to Saint Mary’s in Halifax on Jan. 11, the Panthers fell 4-2 to the Acadia Axemen in Wolfville, N.S., on Jan. 14.The Panthers are back on the road this weekend with games against Dalhousie on Jan.
The Panthers’ next home game is against Saint Mary’s at Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown on Jan. 27 at 7 p.m.Tiah Scichilone’s goal 3:15 into the game proved to be all the offence Forsythe would require. Kaiya Maracle set up the goal.
