A conceptual drawing shows what the proposed faculty of medicine building on the UPEI campus will look like. - ContributedCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The federal government has announced a $19.5 million cash injection for a new health education building that will house the new faculty of medicine at the UPEI campus.

In total, the facility will cost $48.8 million. The provincial government is spending $16.2 million on the project, while UPEI will contribute $13 million.The nearly 133,000-square-foot facility will provide training space for students of UPEI's planned medical program, offered jointly with Memorial University. The program will start in September 2025 under MUN’s accreditation and will later become a fully joint program.

The planned faculty of medicine building will have spaces for simulations, clinical training and academic anatomy teaching for medical students and in other programs such as nursing, nurse practitioner and paramedicine. It will also house the expanded UPEI Health and Wellness Centre, which will transition to a patient medical home and on-site psychology clinic.It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
