The UPEI men’s basketball team knows exactly where it will finish the regular season, while it will go down to the wire for the women Panthers, who are in a three-way race for second place. Both UPEI teams split weekend games against the Cape Breton University Capers in Sydney, N.S. The UPEI men, who will complete the regular season in second place, defeated the Capers 90-69 on Feb. 11 after dropping an 85-82 decision on Feb. 10. Those results left the Panthers with a record of 13-5 , including a 7-3 mark in their last 10 games.The women Panthers, who lost 71-55 on Feb. 11 and won 66-43 on Feb. 10, enter the final weekend of regular-season play in second place.

The top two teams in each league avoid having to play a quarter-final game while advancing directly to the semifinals. Both UPEI teams close out the regular season against the Memorial SeaHawks in St. John’s, N.L., on Feb. 17 and 18. All four games will count as four-pointers in the standings.
