THUNDER BAY — Environment Canada's updated weather forecast for the City of Thunder Bay shows a wide variation in the potential snow accumulation from a system that will arrive Wednesday evening.
Between two and four centimetres of snow are expected initially, followed by five to ten centimetres during daytime hours Thursday, and another five to ten centimetres Thursday night. The range falls anywhere between 12 and 24 cm in total during this period, with flurries to follow on Friday. Strong gusts of wind will add to the challenge for any outdoor activities in particular, as the windchill will be minus 28 overnight Wednesday and Thursday morning, rising only to minus 22 by afternoon. To the east of the city, conditions are expected to be much worse, with a winter storm watch in effect for the area between Nipigon and Marathon, as well as Greenstone.
Total snowfall amounts may reach 40 cm by Saturday or Saturday night, and wind gusts of up to 80 km/h may create near-blizzard conditions on Friday.
