UPDATE: Saanich Police say GVERT is on scene but that the incident isn't an active shooter situation.
What exactly the incident remains is unclear at this time but the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team is on the scene with Saanich Police.
Sgt. Damian Kowalewich, acting media spokesperson for the Saanich Police Department, told CHEK News the incident isn’t an active shooter situation and confirmed that GVERT is on the scene. “Definitely not active shooter situation and we don’t believe that anyone in the surrounding area is at risk,” said Kowalewich.
Kowalewich said the incident is contained to the Vancouver Island Technology Park, located beside Camosun College and Layritz Park, and that Markham Street will be blocked off to traffic while police deal with the situation. “We know there are employees and we are trying to resolve the situation as safely as possible there is no immediate risk to the surrounding area but we are kindly asking the public to stay away until further notice,” he said.Sign up for our newsletter to get breaking news and daily digests sent to your email.Kowalewich said he could not comment further on the nature of the situation at this time. He said more information will be released on social media when it becomes available.
