The Victorian state government has provided an update on a possible state memorial service for late comedian Barry Humphries following the comedian’s death at 89.
However, Humphries was born in Melbourne in 1934 and raised in the eastern suburb of Camberwell.
“The government is in conversation with his family and I want to extend my condolences to Barry Humphries’ family and everyone who loved him at a time that is very sad for them,” he told the ABC on Sunday. Notable Australians to receive state memorial services in Victoria over the past year include Olivia Newton-John, Shane Warne and Archie Roach.
The service at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last March was attended by over 50,000 mourners and included pre-recorded performances by Ed Sheeran and Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
