Revellers who got scammed into buying tickets to a New Year’s Eve boat party offering an unforgettable night in Glenelg, will receive a refund from ticketing website Eventbrite.
About 150 guests had purchased tickets for $120 to attend the boat party, where they were told they would enjoy unlimited food and drinks.Watch the latest news and stream for free onBut there was no boat when the crowd arrived at the marina and the event’s page had been taken down. Some guests including Cameron Chappell took to TikTok to express their disappointment and said in a video some guests had travelled an hour to get to the beach for the New Year’s Eve party.It said in a statement it would refund all ticket holders of the party.
“All evidence we have right now points towards the conclusion that the advertised ‘NYE on the Bay Boat Party’ in Glenelg was a fraudulent event, and we are therefore refunding all attendees in full today,” an Eventbrite spokesman said.More than 150 guests arrived at the Glenelg marina expecting to attend a boat party.SA police said they had seen reports of the scam where guests paid $120 to attend.
The scam continued to unravel on Monday when a 23-year-old Adelaide real estate agent came forward and said he was caught up in the scam.
