Université de Moncton students have yet to weigh in on name change debate initiated by Acadian community in New Brunswick

As an organization, Léger said, FÉCUM remains neutral on the name change because they represent the students. Until they have the students’ opinions, they cannot represent those opinions. The petition was created near the beginning of March by Nadeau and Jean-Bernard Robichaud, who was rector of the university from 1990 to 2000. The list of signatories includes many prominent Acadians, including artists, current and former politicians and Université de Moncton alumni among others.

"If there is a group, social consensus, on this issue, we will listen and we will do things how they should be done," said Prud'homme, speaking in French."We will listen and act if there is a critical mass who demonstrates that this issue was a blind spot and should be put back on our radar." Ouellette recognized not many students and people of the younger generations are involved in the debate. She said that older generations, like hers, have been actively involved in Acadian issues, “winning and losing some battles” for long enough that they have a historical background.
