Unity govt never ignored Malay agenda, Islamic interests, says Zahid

Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says the struggles championed by the unity government are in line with that of Umno for the Malay and Islamic agenda. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, May 12, 2023.

The deputy prime minister said at the same time, the government would not sideline other religions and communities. “This is enshrined in the Umno constitution. We make Islam the objective of our party’s establishment and struggle without excluding other religions,” he told reporters after attending a Hari Raya Aidilfitri event organised by Perlis Umno in Arau today.

Zahid was commenting on the statement by Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir, who was reported to have said the party would not enter into an electoral pact with any coalition comprising Umno for the state elections.
