PASIG CITY — The Ungka Flyover connecting Iloilo City and Pavia officially reopened to full vehicular traffic on Dec. 23, marking the end of a three-year closure due to 'vertical displacement' and other crucial structural defects on its piers that were found to be sinking. The flyover is now open 24/7 for public utility vehicles, although restrictions remain for larger vehicles. A speed limit of 40 kilometers per hour has been in effect to enhance safety.
Vehicles prohibited from passing the flyover include dump trucks, transit mixers, wing vans, trailer trucks, motorcycles, tricycles and bicycles.DPWH-6 director Sanny Boy Oropel said although the flyover is already in full use, the installation of steel railings on the parapet will continue. The reopening was celebrated with a blessing led by Fr. This project will not only reduce travel time but will also enhance connectivity across the region,' he said.Oropel stressed that the project required meticulous planning and execution, overcoming technical and logistical hurdles.'Through perseverance, teamwork, and the unwavering trust of the public, we were able to deliver on our promise. This flyover stands as a proof of our commitment to serve Ilonggos, 'he added.Authorities have reminded motorists to adhere to road safety rules when using the flyover.Initially opened in September 2022, the flyover faced immediate closure due to complaints about structural instability, including sinking and flooding during heavy rain
