There are “unanswered questions” surrounding the Voice over whether the proposed representative body will need to be consulted if Australia potentially goes to war, says former Victorian Liberal Party president Michael Kroger.
His comments come after Sydney barrister Brett Walker SC labelled arguments made against the proposed Indigenous Voice to Parliament model as “racist”.
“Do we have to consult the Voice if Australia is to go to war,” Mr Kroger told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. “The Executive decides whether our country goes to war, but if the Voice is passed what it means is the Parliament and the Australian public do not need to be consulted, but you’ll have to consult the Aboriginal community about whether we go to war?“Can they stop us going to war until there’s a High Court decision on that issue?”

‘Development’ in the Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum debateSky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says there has been a development late last week in the Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum debate. Mr Clennell said the Solicitor-General and the Attorney-General provided advice to the Referendum Working Group that “they might like to alter the referendum question”. “The proposal will – as I understand it – involve the Voice being required to give advice to both parliament and executive government,” he said. “The group was adamant that executive government be in there. “The Attorney and Solicitor-General were saying perhaps a line could be added stressing parliament had the power to legally implement Voice recommendations – that has yet to be accepted.”
