As Australia gears up for the festive season, these Ukrainian refugees can't help but be reminded of their war-torn home.

The Drevniaks and their children Andrii 16, Oleh 13, Solomiia three, pictured in Ukraine and Australia. "Two nights after, we were woken up by the information that Russia actually invaded Ukraine and started that horrible war."The Drevniaks never returned to Ukraine after holidaying in Poland, instead making their way to relatives in south-east Queensland with their children Andrii, 16, Oleh, 13 and Solomiia, three."We explained to them it was too dangerous [to return to Ukraine]," she said."Children study not at school, but in a bomb shelter.
"It's a sensitive and sad topic for me because my mum and grandparents are still in Ukraine, as well as lots of my friends," she told the ABC through an interpreter."Sometimes, when there is no electricity, Mum can't call because obviously there is no internet coverage.Yana Nikolenko, 33, says she just wants the "nightmare to end".
