Auto workers are starting the week off at the picket lines, entering into their fourth day on strike against major automakers operating in the U.S. — Ford (F), General Motors (GM), and Stellantis (STLA). Morningstar U.S. Autos Equity Analyst David Whiston sits down with Yahoo Finance to detail the United Auto Workers union's (UAW) extensive list of demands against the Big Three automakers, and what a prolonged strike could mean for other industries and even smaller businesses. 'If the strike then goes beyond just the Detroit Three in terms of the supplier base, it could start impacting Toyota, another transplant's production, and that impacts dealers all over the country...' Whiston describes. 'Then there's all the other businesses you don't think of that really have nothing to do with the auto industry other than auto plant workers frequent these businesses.' Whiston also outlines where and when this strike will show up in earnings and which automakers could be the best protected.
