Two 17-year-olds have been charged after Emma Lovell, 41, and husband Lee, 43, were stabbed defending their home from intruders, police say.

Two teenagers have been charged with the murder of a Queensland woman who died from her injuries after a struggle with intruders late on Boxing Day at her house north of Brisbane.

Superintendent John Hallam said the two alleged offenders entered the dwelling, where the couple were sleeping.Hallam said the confrontation spilled out onto the front lawn.Emma was treated by emergency workers who had raced to the address but she could not be saved and died in hospital.All four teenagers in custody were known to police.

Earlier on Tuesday, neighbour Jay Balhatchet, who witnessed paramedics helping Emma on the front lawn, said the neighbourhood woke to screams.“That’s pretty much when everyone got up, and that’s when they all saw it happen on the front lawn. The scene in Whitfield Crescent, North Lakes, where a resident died after a scuffle on the porch of her house.Whitfield Crescent was a quiet suburban street, despite police officers combing through the scene the morning after the death.

Police set up a crime scene and launched a homicide investigation, urging anyone with information or footage to come forward.“This is an incredibly sad day, and that’s the most important thing we need to acknowledge, that it is a grieving family and our thoughts are with them,” she said. Linard said the government had made changes, including introducing a presumption against bail last year, under which youths are held in detention for longer.
