Police say two teenage boys have been charged, and one cautioned, after vehicles were struck with bullets in a Queensland town near where two police officers were killed last month.
Officers were attending another matter when they received reports of gunfire about 3:30pm on Wednesday.Police declared an emergency in the town at 5:30pm, and said three cars were shot at.Queensland Police made an exclusion zone among residential streets in Tara at 5.30pm on Wednesday.Police said on Thursday morning the 14-year-old had been given a caution and dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
Two police officers — Constables Rachel McCrow and Matthew Arnold — were killed along with local man Alan Dare.Western Downs Regional Council mayor Paul McVeigh said a major crackdown on crime was needed. "There's too much of this happening across our region, whether it be theft to entering properties," Cr McVeigh said."I think it's time that all levels of government work together to stop this crime wave that's happening at the moment."About 3,800 people live in and around the town of Tara, 300 kilometres west of Brisbane.
