Two police officers have been taken to hospital with serious stab wounds, and their alleged attacker shot dead in Crystal Brook, a town about 200 kilometres north of Adelaide.

Two police officers have been stabbed and their alleged attacker shot dead in a regional South Australian town.

An occupant allegedly stabbed the two officers, from Port Germain and Crystal Brook, before police shot the man dead at the scene. Police said the Port Germain officer was airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a serious but stable condition. The Crystal Brook officer was first taken to Port Pirie Hospital, but would be flown to Adelaide in a serious but stable condition.

“Our police put their lives on the line every day keeping us safe, for that we are forever grateful.”“We’ve seen this around Australia all the time, and we’ve been fortunate in SA that we haven’t lost any police officers for a number of years,” he said.
