Two people are dead as a result of a two-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway late yesterday afternoon east of the Goobies weigh scales.

The crash, between a pickup and an SUV, claimed the lives of both drivers, a 46-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman. The only other occupant, a passenger in the truck, was taken to hospital in Clarenville with non-life-threatening injuries. The collision forced the temporary closure of the highway while emergency crews attended to the scene.
