The 38th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution was commemorated in the Philippines with wreath-laying ceremonies at the People Power Monument in Quezon City. Two universities, the University of the Philippines-Cebu and St. Louis University (SLU) in Baguio City, joined a growing list of schools suspending classes on February 25th to honor the historic peaceful revolt.

The National Historic Commission of the Philippines led the commemorative rites for the 38th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution at the People Power Monument in Quezon City on Sunday, February 25, 2024. Leading the wreath-laying ceremony were NHCP chairman Emmanuel Franco Calairo, Spirit of EDSA chairman Chel Diokno, and Chino Roces Foundation head Rebecca Quijano, among others.

Two more universities are set to suspend classes on February 25, marking the 39th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. The University of the Philippines-Cebu will mark the said date as a “Day of Commemoration, Remembrance, and Reflection” to commemorate the historic protest. “This day serves as an opportunity for the UP Cebu community to pause, reflect, and honor the significance of the EDSA People Power Revolution,” the declaration said, according to a report from student publication Tug-ani. The Congregatio Immaculati Cordis Mariae—a network of Catholic schools, which includes St. Louis University (SLU) in Baguio City—will also suspend its classes to commemorate the said revolt. Noting that the People Power Revolution’s significance to the country’s history, the association encourages its students to observe and feel its essence. “This is not only to recognize the people who sacrificed themselves during those events, but to also ensure that our learners of today have a genuine knowledge and understanding of our history,” it said on Tuesday. Some schools in Metro Manila have earlier suspended classes and work to commemorate the end of martial law in 1986 and the first Marcos administration
