SAINT JOHN, N.B. — A speeding Saint John driver and his machete-wielding passenger were arrested and charged on Thursday evening, March 20.
Around 7 p.m., an off-duty Saint John Police Force officer witnessed an eastbound car being driven dangerously at high speeds on Highway 1. Police say a call around the same time regarding the same vehicle alleged"that the passenger waved a machete at them."The two men were safely apprehended when the vehicle turned into a parking lot near McAllister Drive and Westmorland Road, at which time police found a machete.
The driver, a 24-year-old man, was charged with dangerous driving, impaired driving and an outstanding committal warrant. He was remanded to custody and is scheduled to return to court on June 4. His 26-year-old male passenger is in court Monday to face charges of dangerous purpose and breach of probation.
