Central Saanich fire crews responded to a hedge fire in Centennial Park on Oct. 6, 2022.
John Robertson, assistant fire chief, says just before 2 a.m., they received a call that a hedge was on fire but had been extinguished. “[Crews] were just going to check that out to make sure it was mopped up properly, and they found some garbage cans on fire in Centennial Park.”Sign up for our newsletter to get breaking news and daily digests sent to your email.He says the two incidents happened within about a half hour of each other around 2 a.m. Since the fires happened around the same time he says it is suspicious and Central Saanich Police are investigating.
