Two people have died following a fiery crash on a major motorway in Queensland.

Police were called to the Capricorn Highway, east of Duaringa and about one hour from Rockhampton, on Tuesday just after 8pm with reports of a collision between two cars.

Early investigations suggest a Mazda 3 was travelling east on the thoroughfare when it slammed into a Toyota Hilux heading in the opposite direction. Two men have died after their vehicles collided with one another on the Capricorn Highway, east of Duaringa, on Tuesday night. Picture: Queensland Police ServiceThe male driver and the only occupant of the car died at the scene.A cattle truck nearby at the time received minor damage and the driver escaped injury.Detectives are calling for anyone who may have been in the area at the time and may have dash cam footage to come forward to help the investigation.
