Two Albertans named as finalists for 2022 Governor General books awards yyc
The finalists are from across Canada – living in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador. Out of the 82 individual writers, illustrators and translators, the overwhelming majority this year is represented by women and 71 per cent of the individuals are first-time GGBook finalists, including some for whom the book is a debut publication.
The Move is a bilingual story of two Cree Elders adjusting to life in their new environment after their people are displaced from their ancestral homeland. Through traditional Cree storytelling techniques and vivid imagery, the new landscape springs to life and becomes a true community, filled with life and happiness.
Books up for the English fiction prize are All the Quiet Places , Finding Edward , Probably Ruby , Pure Colour , The Most Precious Substance on Earth, . Other categories for both English and French include poetry, drama, non-fiction, young people’s literature , young people’s literature and translation.
Each winner will receive $25,000, and finalists receive $1,000 each. Winners will be named on Nov. 16 on ggbooks.ca.
