As most of you already know, Twitter will be slapping an $8 monthly fee for official accounts to have that blue tick verification. It sounds like a good idea on paper to rely less on advertisements, but there are some overlooked issues . With that, the company is coming up with a solution.
So what's the solution? Well, Esther Crawford who works in Twitter just announced that in order to distinguish between Twitter Blue subscribers and verified accounts, the company will introduce a new"Official" Label which is the grey tick as seen in the image. The"Official" label won't be on every previously verified account and it's not available for purchase.
Not all previously verified accounts will get the “Official” label and the label is not available for purchase. Accounts that will receive it include government accounts, commercial companies, business partners, major media outlets, publishers and some public figures. — Esther Crawford November 8, 2022 Crawford also said that"Official" Label will only be for government accounts, commercial companies, business partners, major media outlets, publishers and some public figures. Moreover, Twitter Blue won't include ID verification as it's an opt-in, paid subscription model.
The"Official" label is still in the works, so Twitter will continue doing some experiments in order to differentiate between account types. Twitter Blue was supposed to go live soon but the company decided to delay it until the US midterm elections. Malaysia won't be part of the first wave to experience Twitter Blue as well.
