The lawyer of Donald Trump has unleashed her frustration with the former president’s latest court appearance, deeming it “not appropriate” as she launched a fierce defence for her client while speaking to reporters.
Trump arrived in court for the hearing that began at 6.15am AEST, pleading not guilty to all four counts of the indictment – conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding; and conspiracy against rights.
Ms Habba went on to list a series of incidents that preceded each indictment, slamming it as “election interference”. “Last week Hunter Biden’s sweetheart plea deal fell through when the judge realised it had blanket immunity. The following day, a superseding indictment against Donald trump.” The lawyer said the indictment was ultimately about the upcoming 2024 election with Trump leading both the republicans and Biden in polling, comparing his reaction to the 2020 election with Hillary Clinton when she lost to the Republican in 2016.
“If your last name is Trump it’s very different, so Hillary Clinton could have a problem when she lost the election – a complete liberal meltdown as we all saw – but when we have dignified disagreements, we take them to court,” Ms Habba said. Trump spoke to reporters briefly after driving back to Reagan National Airport, Virginia before flying out.
