Breaking: Two weeks after Trump pleaded not guilty in a Washington court for his role in trying to overthrow the results of the 2020 election, an Atlanta-based grand jury has laid more charges.
: Donald Trump has been charged for a fourth time, this time over efforts to overturn election results in Georgia.
“The indictment alleges that rather than abide by Georgia’s legal process for election challenges, the defendants engaged in a criminal racketeering enterprise to overturn Georgia’s presidential election result,” Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said during a press conference just before midnight on Monday .She added that the defendants would have until “no later than noon” on Friday, August 25 to voluntarily surrender.
But the probe has also embroiled key members of Trump’s orbit, as well as lesser-known state Republicans accused of conspiring with them to keep Trump in power. The Georgia indictment is the fourth that Trump has faced in five months, putting him on a collision course with the court system as his campaign to return to the White House intensifies.
After the indictment was unsealed, he issued a statement saying that “Justice and the rule of law are officially DEAD in America.”
