Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he’s eager to defend his government’s use of the Emergencies Act, even as some law enforcement officials have been testifying that it wasn’t needed.

On Wednesday, Ottawa Police Service Supt. Robert Bernier told the Public Order Emergency Commission that he had a plan in place to tackle the “Freedom Convoy” even if the federal government didn’t invoke the emergency powers. One of the main reasons for the Emergencies Act was to compel tow truck drivers to remove the large vehicles occupying Ottawa’s downtown core.
