The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has been called to investigate after the driver of a truck was injured as he was trying to avoid a spike belt set up by Comox Valley RCMP.
On Oct. 5, RCMP were investigating a report of a stolen vehicle, and an officer found it in the 700-block of Ryan Road. The driver began to leave so the officer attempted to block the vehicle, according to an RCMP release. Investigators say the driver then drove into the police vehicle and left the scene.
Officers initiated a search for the suspect and vehicle, and used the RCMP Air Services helicopter to assist.Police attempted to set up a spike belt.Sign up for our newsletter to get breaking news and daily digests sent to your email.The driver then allegedly tried to drive past them, then lost control and the vehicle rolled. He was transported to hospital by B.C. Emergency Health Services.
Comox Valley RCMP are also investigating the initial report of a stolen vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to call 250-338-1321.
