PAGASA reports that Tropical Storm Maymay (Kujira) may hit land by Wednesday evening, August 5, or early Thursday morning, August 6. The storm is expected to strengthen as it approaches, with maximum sustained winds reaching 75 km/h and gustiness up to 90 km/h. It could make landfall in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, or La Union, and afterward weaken into a tropical depression. Maymay will bring heavy rainfall to 17 provinces in Northern and Central Luzon, along with the southwest monsoon affecting Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and parts of Western Visayas.

MANILA, Philippines – Ilocos Norte is now among the list of potential landfall sites for Tropical Storm Maymay , aside from Ilocos Sur and La Union. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said in its 5 pm bulletin on Wednesday, August 5, that Maymay could make landfall in one of those three provinces in the Ilocos Region by Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning, August 6.
As of 4 pm on Wednesday, Maymay was located 145 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur, moving north northeast at just 10 kilometers per hour . The tropical storm slightly intensified early Wednesday afternoon, with its maximum sustained winds increasing from 65 km/h to 75 km/h. Its gustiness is now up to 90 km/h from the previous 80 km/h.
After its expected landfall in the Ilocos Region, Maymay could weaken into a tropical depression and subsequently into a low pressure area on Thursday. PAGASA’s latest rainfall outlook, issued at 5 pm on Wednesday, shows Maymay will still bring significant rainfall to 17 provinces in Northern Luzon and Central Luzon in the next 24 hours. This number will sharply drop beyond that period as Maymay could just be a remnant low by then.
Heavy to intense rain : Pangasinan, Abra, Zambales, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugaoalso continues to hit Metro Manila, Calabarzon, much of Mimaropa, and portions of Western Visayas on Wednesday. Dolphin was last spotted 1,645 kilometers east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon at 4 pm on Wednesday, moving west northwest at 15 km/h. It maintained its strength, with maximum sustained winds of 155 km/h and gustiness of up to 190 km/h. At its peak, Dolphin was a super typhoon. PAGASA Assistant Weather Services Chief Chris Perez said Dolphin only has a slim chance of entering PAR, as it is generally heading for Japan’s southern islands.
