The trilateral phone call involving the leaders of the Philippines, the United States, and Japan, initially planned for Sunday, has been rescheduled for Monday morning due to wildfires in Los Angeles.

Malacañang announced that the trilateral phone call between the Philippines , the United States , and Japan , originally scheduled for Sunday, January 12, has been postponed to Monday morning (Manila time). Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Cesar Chavez revealed that the meeting will now take place at 7 a.m. on Monday. Chavez stated that the US side requested the change due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.

The trilateral call is anticipated to involve President Marcos, US President Joseph Biden, and Japan Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru. The Philippines, the United States, and Japan formally initiated trilateral maritime cooperation on April 12, 2024. This agreement aims to protect the citizens of these countries at sea, as their leaders have expressed concern about China's aggressive and intimidating actions in the South and East China Seas
