ILOILO City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas on Wednesday, on December 25, 2024, refuted claims that the City Government caused the lack of cable and internet services in the area. Treñas said that an ordinance requiring all utility wires to be placed underground has been in effect since 2023 and applies to all providers operating in Iloilo City.
Calle Real, a bustling street in downtown Iloilo, was declared a heritage zone by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines in 2014 due to its significant commercial and business activity.“The contractors were given sufficient time—an entire year—to comply with this requirement, yet they failed to take action. Now, they are compelled to adhere to the law, and instead of taking responsibility, they unfairly shift the blame to the City Government,” Treñas said.
