Sky News host Chris Kenny says even though the Albanese government promised to slash electricity bills by $275 a year, some bills have already risen by $275 – an increase which is expected to double.
Mr Kenny said the industry believes the price rise is “now unavoidable” and will hurt households and businesses, but Treasurer Jim Chalmers is looking “to blame others”.
“This bloke is in energy denial, science denial when it comes to our electricity market because he thinks the problem is that we don’t have enough renewable energy,” he said. “He ignores the problem – closure of coal and gas generation, extra reliance on intermittent renewables, and huge costs for transmission and storage of renewable energy, and high costs for peaking power to fill the gaps.
“He promises to do more of the same, to double down on climate policies instead of delivering reliable and affordable power.”
