Catherine King says the 2020 incident was one factor in her decision to reject Qatar's application to increase its flights to major Australian airports, but that no single issue swayed her one way or the other.
abc.net.au/news/transport-minister-strip-search-context-in-qatar-rejection/102824850The federal Transport Minister Catherine King has pointed to the strip search of five Australian women in Doha as "context" behind her decision to reject a bid by Qatar Airways to increase flights into Australia.
The airline had applied to increase the number of direct flights it operates into major Australian airports, but the minister refused the application in July. It has been revealed she wrote to lawyers for the five women on the same day she signed off on the Qatar refusal."That is context that is there."
Speaking as she released the government's aviation green paper, the minister added "there was no one factor that influenced this decision."
