A family member has revealed the tragic reason a couple and their three children hit the road early on Christmas Day before a fatal crash claimed the lives of the parents.
Jake Day, 28, and Cindy Braddock, 25, and their three kids all under the age of five left Northam, about 90 kilometres north-east of Perth, on Sunday about 1am.
Tragically, a relative searching for the family discovered the wrecked Land Rover on Tuesday afternoon just 10 kilometres from their hometown Kondinin. His older brother, five, and sister, two, had somehow managed to free themselves and are understood to be in a stable condition. "My understanding was they left Northam early so Jake could be with his mum on Christmas," he told 7News on Tuesday.
"They are going to be pretty missed by everybody - not just gamily and friends but the community as well," Mr Read added.
