'I was very lucky to get away with the repercussions that I had now. And the next time I wouldn't be so lucky'. The incredible story of Libby Hopwood. 👏 9WWOS
Hopwood was riding Barigan Boy in Race 8 when she was involved in a massive fall with three other horses.
"I was arguing with my one of my therapists at the rehab centre that they could let me out - that there was nothing wrong with me," she said."I couldn't, and that was sort of a turning point in me realising that I should probably stay in rehab for a bit longer.""I was trying to get back to riding because that was all I knew and it was how I was trying to piece myself together," she said.
She said her brain injury led her to develop her own shorthand note-taking system that was crucial to her being able to successfully do her job. She also developed aphasia, which meant she had to factor in scheduled break time to allow her brain time to recover - or run the risk of saying totally wrong words on-air without knowing.
"I love racing, I love talking about racing, and I have an amazing lingerie collection," she said about how the idea first came along.
