Parts of Preston Street, Carling Ave and Gladstone Ave are among the roads closed for Italian Week festivities.
From noon to 1 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, Preston Street is closed to traffic from Carling Avenue to Somerset Street, along with one block of Gladstone Street from Preston to Rochester. There are also parking restrictions in the area.
The festival started June 8 and runs to June 18. Opening weekend activities include a soccer tournament, Italian dance, music and comedy, and a kids’ zone that features face-painting, storytelling, arts and crafts, Italian lessons and more. Meanwhile, the main-stage entertainment on Saturday features a headlining performance by Italian-Canadian singer-songwriter Andrea Ramola with Riccardo Laganà, founder of Kalàscima, one of Italy’s hottest bands, along with daytime performances by comedian Joe Cacchione, Italian accordionist Rossano Giamberardino and the dance troupe Fonte d’Amore.
