Staff at Canadian missions in Israel, Palestine, and surrounding countries are well prepared for the crisis unfolding in the region, but face uncertainty over how long the conflict between Israel and Hamas will last, according to former diplomatic officers and the profession's union. “You have contingency plans, but it’s hard for people, because they're tired, they’re stressed,” said Pam Isfeld, president of the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers .
president Isfeld said that officials working in the region were beginning to transition from an emergency response to emergency management. represents more than 2,000 current and retired members of the professional foreign service, and acts as both a union and professional association. “What I understand is everybody's doing okay. They're busy, they're on adrenaline for now, but that's going to have to end at some point,” she said.
