The Star has been nominated for two Awards for Excellence in Audio (Ambies) for its podcasts, one of two Canadian news organizations to receive that honour this year.
Every year, the Ambies select the best podcast shows in the world among a wide variety of categories, including news, sports, business and comedy. It’s organized by The Podcast Academy, the only global professional membership organization for podcast creators.
“Deep Left Field,” hosted by Wilner, discusses all things baseball, with a focus on the Blue Jays. Frequent guests on the podcast include Star columnist Gregor Chisholm, players like pitcher Ross Stripling, executives, coaches and even celebrity fans such as Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, known for “Kim’s Convenience.” The podcast started shortly after Wilner joined the Star in early 2021.
Owens added that recognition from the Ambies is “a credit to our journalists, who are experts in their respective fields, and to the skilled teams who support them.”
