Toronto’s iconic Lakeview Restaurant in the west end will close by the end of the month, the staff announced on social media Tuesday.
The popular diner, near Dundas Street and Ossington Avenue, has been open since 1932 and has been featured in a number of films and television shows. It was also known for its 24-hour dining service, evident by the neon sign beaming “always open” from the diner’s front window.
Alongside a photo of a broken stack of heart-shaped pancakes staff posted to Instagram on Tuesday, the restaurant announced service will end on Feb. 28. “It’s not you, it’s us. Our relationship has been a wild ride, but it’s time for us to take a step back,” the restaurant staff said in the post. “Someday — maybe sooner than later — we’ll get back together and rekindle our love. Until then, farewell, fair city.”
