Toronto Police were called to the festival that morning to respond to violent clashes that sent at least nine people to hospital.

Toronto Police Const. Laura Brabant said officers first arrived at 10:01 a.m. after a report of a stabbing just before the hour. Brabant said many of the protesters dispersed as officers remained on scene, but around 2 p.m., another group of people came to the park armed with weapons.
