Police responded to four suspected drug overdoses in Toronto’s downtown core on Saturday, prompting the force to issue a public safety alert.

According to a press release on Sunday, the overdoses happened “within 51 Division,” which includes: South Riverdale, Church-Yonge Corridor, Waterfront Communities-The Island, North St. James Town, Regent Park, Cabbagetown-South St. James Town and Moss Park.

It is unclear how many of Saturday’s overdoses were fatal. There are also no details about which neighbourhoods the overdoses happened in. Data released in March by Toronto Public Health showed there were 526 confirmed opioid deaths from Oct. 1, 2021 to Sept. 30, 2022. According to the same data, about 96 per cent of these deaths were accidental.
