A class-action lawsuit is being proposed to tackle the practice of “carding” by Toronto Police.

The statement of claim was filed Monday on behalf of all Black and Indigenous people stopped by Toronto police or whose information was collected without reason since 2011.Named in the lawsuit are former chiefs Bill Blair, Mark Saunders and James Ramer, as well as current chief Myron Demkiw and the TPS Board.

The lawsuit alleges that the practice violated certain Charter rights, including protections against discrimination and unreasonable searches.Farah lost her job at Toronto Pearson Airport for a 21-month period between 2014 and 2015 after she was carded by police and accused of associating with a person with alleged gang ties.Ctrl+Enter
