Himself an immigrant to Canada from England born to Jamaican-born parents who wanted him to get a better education and opportunities, Saunders says he can relate to the experience of coming to Toronto — “a city of immigrants.” At the federal level, the government aims to annually attract 500,000 immigrants to Canada by 2025.
