A 21-year-old Toronto man has been identified as the victim in a targeted weekend shooting in a Vancouver suburb that comes amidst gang tensions in B.C.’s Lower Mainland.

Shemar Jack died after a shooting on Sunday evening, the RCMP’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said in a prepared statement. The specialized RCMP homicide squad is investigating whether a burned vehicle found in the 17000-block of 92 Ave. in Surrey at 7:30 a.m. Monday is connected to Jack’s death and the other shooting.Another man who was shot in the same incident remains in critical condition in hospital, police said.Police found Jack and the other gunshot victim after several 911 calls shortly after 11 p.m. on Sunday night.

“Investigators believe this to be a targeted shooting in connection to the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict and are working with their partners to determine Jack’s connection to the area,” the IHIT team said in a prepared statement.
