NEW YORK, April 1 — A fierce tornado blasted through Little Rock, Arkansas, yesterday, ripping away roofs and walls from many buildings, uprooting trees and flipping over vehicles, injuring at least a couple of dozen people.
Baptist Health Medical Centre received 21 patients from the storm, five of them listed in critical condition, at its two Little Rock-area hospitals, spokesperson Cara Wade said. Video shot from a window in one of the Baptist Health facilities and verified by Reuters showed a towering, swirling black column of air, moisture and dust plowing slowly through the landscape in the near distance.
Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. said on Twitter that he had asked Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders to mobilize National Guard troops to assist in the emergency response.
