Ridly Greig gets in a workout at Senators rookie practice at the Canadian Tire Centre yesterday. The Ottawa Senators were a man short when they boarded the Iron Lung and headed to Buffalo on Thursday afternoon.
“Just to be pre-cautious we’re going to keep him out for this rookie camp,” Bell said following the skate. “We fully expect him to be ready for main camp. He had skated all week, but just in fitness testing something tweaked so he’s not going to go.” “He just works so darn hard, and he just pushed himself so hard in the fitness testing that it’s not an injury, he’s just sore. We’d rather he be sore, take the weekend to recover and be fully ready to go for main camp. This isn’t a previous injury, he pushed himself hard in fitness testing,” Bell said.
Several of the Senators draft picks from the past couple of years are in NCAA programs or overseas, so they can’t participate in this event. The Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, Pittsburgh Penguins and the host Sabres are the other participants. “They have to play their game, but they have to look at it as an opportunity,” Bell said. “There’s an opportunity to play more than one game and some will play all three games. Some of the players in this group could earn the opportunity to play more games on merit alone.
