So the cueing and guessing strategies will be finally gone, as they should have been years ago. I taught in the “regular” classroom as well as being a special education teacher. When I first started teaching in 1958, phonics ruled. Then came a variety of guess strategies. Fortunately, as a special education teacher, I was free to use whatever strategy I thought would work. Many of my teacher friends in the “regular” classroom never gave up on phonics either.
