It is a great personal and professional pleasure to send out birthday greetings to one of the most respected political columnists of his generation, Jeffrey Simpson, as he celebrates his 74for many years.Globe’s, his chronicle of the rise and fall of the Joe Clark government in 1979-1980, was one of the earliest political volumes I read.

Now retired, Simpson still appears in print, on television and radio as a commentator. My only serious complaint about his work has been his vocal opposition to the Canadian Monarchy. But, as today is his birthday, I will forgive him this repeated transgression.is an accomplished public historian and award-winning journalist. He was research assistant on The Rt. Hon.
